Teachers are key actors in the provision of education services. The Indonesian Government seeks to generate newly qualified educators through the Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education (PPG) held by appointed teachers colleges. But, has the knowledge the novice teachers acquired from the PPG programme met their teaching needs? Does the current education system support teachers to achieve their professional capacities?
RISE Programme in Indonesia hosted a webinar Discussing Education: “Novice Teachers for Indonesia’s Future Generation: Are They Ready?” to present the results of a longitudinal study that followed the journey of novice teachers. The study recorded the novice teachers’ experience from what they did to prepare themselves to become teachers to what they went through as they entered the world of work with all its challenges and opportunities. Another relevant topic will be discussed in the event is the evaluation of the Pre-Service PPG programme in relation to teachers’ skills and student learning outcomes.
The webinar aims to disseminate the results of RISE Programme in Indonesia’s studies as well as obtain input on teachers’ needs, especially novice teachers, in carrying out their profession. We also hope that this webinar can encourage collaborative efforts between institutions and stakeholders engaged in education.
