Description:

The dissemination event (webinar) "Improving Parental Involvement in Children's Education in Kebumen District" was organised by the RISE Programme in Indonesia to convey the results of this study to the stakeholders involved such as the education agency, teachers, school principals, and parents in Kebumen District. The webinar was also held to get input on intervention programme that can be carried out to improve children's learning outcomes in the future.

In collaboration with the Kebumen District Education Agency, the RISE Programme in Indonesia implemented the "Improving Parental Involvement in Children's Education" programme from February 2020 to April 2021. This program was designed to address the low participation of parents in children's education in Kebumen caused by 1) the lack of information received by parents regarding the development of children's learning from school and 2) the educational background of parents which hinders the confidence and knowledge of parents in educating children.

This program was implemented in 65 elementary schools spread across 13 sub-districts in Kebumen District, involving 488 teachers and principals as well as around 9000 parents. In this programme, parents and students' guardians receive information in the form of study reports and leaflets every month. The learning report letter was written by the teacher and contains information regarding the child's learning difficulties in the past month, the student's study plan for the next month, special notes from the teacher for parents, and a section for parents responding to the learning report letter. Meanwhile, leaflets contain ways that parents can be actively involved in children's education.
